One of the top reasons (if not THE top reason) that people visit New Orleans is try out our world-renowned cuisine. Our interesting history has made for a truly unique style of cooking and one-of-a-kind flavor that you’d be hard pressed to find elsewhere.
It only makes sense to have an institution where visitors as well as life-long locals can learn how to create amazing signature Louisiana dishes at home. The Southern Food & Beverage Museum is now the proud home of the Deelightful Roux School of Cooking spearheaded by native New Orleanian Chef Dee Lavigne SoFAB’s Director of Culinary Programming.
At the ribbon cutting ceremony, Chef Dee held back tears as she explained how thrilled she was to start this exciting new venture. Though Chef Dee has been the recipient of several culinary awards such as the Big Top Carnival Baking Competition in 2017 and 2018, she feels that this is her calling. Every Monday and Thursday, Chef Dee will lead cooking classes that also include a curatorial-led tour of the entire museum so that everyone in attendance can get the backstory of the dish that they will learn how to make. The classes will focus on either Cajun or Creole dishes and will have several courses of food.
