Roots of Music Foundation Brinks the Brass

It’s beautiful to see so many people wanting to help out kids that our under-served by the educational system get a chance to shine and grow thanks to the community at large. That’s what New Orleans has always been good at: helping out our neighbors in whatever way they need. The Roots of Music is one of those cultural institutions, and it has helped out hundreds kids who wouldn’t otherwise have an opportunity to learn and perform music.

Founded by Rebirth Brass Band’s Derrick Tabb. Over 100 kids are bussed to the Cabildo where they are given a meal and tutored in academics before being taught their provided instruments. These children often go on to do well in life, better than their circumstances would have dictated, all due to the tireless efforts of the staff and the generous donations of the New Orleans community.

At the Ashe Powerhouse this past weekend, we got to see the children that are benefited by the program perform alongside Derrick and the fantastic band The Revivalists.
