The Revivalists Ring in the New Year at the Orpheum Theatre

It’s been a decade since The Revivalists formed right here in New Orleans, but I think that just now, they’re hitting their stride. In 2016, Rolling Stone Magazine named them one of the 10 Bands You Need to Know. I concur; if you haven’t already fallen for this funky rock jam band, you need to run out and buy one of their albums right now.

That’s why they chosen to perform at the prestigious Orpheum Theatre to say goodbye to the rather difficult year of 2016, and say hello to the bright, shiny, new year complete with an amazing balloon drop at midnight. They played a very long set beginning when the clock struck 11 p.m. with songs like “Stand Up,” “Monster,” “Catching Fireflies,” and “Faith” which was a cover of the late, great George Michael.

But they weren’t content to leave the stage when time ran out. The encore way past midnight included not one, not two, but four songs! The best may very well have been the George Harrison cover “All Things Must Pass,” which was a perfect send off to the past year so that we can all get ready to do well this year.
